Modular Heads

Interchangeable modular heads allow for versatile use, customizing your handheld to your specific needs. Heads are rugged and provide uncompromised readability.

WiFi enabled

Each handheld employs Bluetooth® and WLAN interface connectivity. Enjoy hassle-free, crystal-clear communication with employees and off-site managers.

Rugged design

A sturdy design ensures this PDA holds up to harsh conditions like freezing extreme temperatures or ice build-up. The interface can be used with gloves so workers can stay protected in dangerous or uncomfortable environments.

Globally certified

This device is safe for all but the most hazardous environments, and globally recognized and rated for class 1 div 2 use.

Intrinsically safe

Intrinsically safe PDAs are built to function safely in hazardous work sites. Compliant electrical devices must be designed to prevent ignition of flammable or explosive substances from faulty wiring, over-heated surfaces, or sparks.

Worker-friendly functionality

Operating much like a consumer handheld, the ATEX-Ex is familiar and capable, filled with user-friendly features and apps that make a dangerous job more productive and better-managed.

Secure network

Full-fledged security features such as device authentication and secure network connectivity.

Class 1, Div. 2, Hazard-Compliant Handhelds

Ecom´s hazardous area handheld rises to the demands of dangerous and rugged work environments while packing a powerful data acquisition and processing unit.  If your company works in oil and gas, refining, chemical, pharmaceutical, or other industries where flammable substances are produced, processed, distributed, or stored, you can implement mobile solutions and still remain compliant with hazardous safety standards. The ATEX-Ex Class 1 DIV 2 is a flexible, modular mobile computer that is globally certified to class 1 division 2 handheld standards.  While class 1 division 2 handhelds are unable to be used in an environment where dangerous gasses are present in normal working conditions, they are still rated to perform safely when a leak or system failure occurs.  There are two different models in the ATEX-Ex line; the CK7x and the CN70x.  Specifically designed to support field mobility on rugged job sites, this PDA is perfectly suited for use in transportation logistics, construction, and industrial manufacturing.  Keep in touch with coworkers or report to management with dual-band WLAN, wide-area network and long-range Bluetooth operating channels for effortless wireless communication.  The ATEX-Ex includes a typical QWERTY keypad as well as a numeric keypad with large function keys that can be pressed even with thick, protective work gloves.  Sensors measure available light to adjust the screen’s backlight, so that readability is guaranteed even in low-visibility conditions.  The self-focusing 2D barcode imaging lens with automatic read correction enables barcode scanning even through thick safety glass and near metals, and the space-saving, ergonomic design includes removable modular heads so each machine can be configured to your exact needs.

Our hazard-safe PDA runs on a Microsoft Windows processor and boasts a brilliant, yet hardy display protected by Gorilla® Glass.  Jointly developed with Paragon partner Intermec, the ATEX-Ex is wear-resistant for long-lasting power.  Unlike more delicate consumer handhelds, this class 1 division 2 handheld can operate in harsh environments with temperatures ranging from -20°C to more than 50°C.  Even in wet, cold, or scorching heat, your intrinsically safe device will raise your standards of hardware function.

Best of all, every hazard-safe PDA is guaranteed compliant for use in rating-specific hazardous areas.  Improve communication, productivity, and data quality without compromising on worker safety.

WHAT MAKES OUR PDAS INTRINSICALLY SAFE?

Typically, most electrical equipment will create small internal arcs (sparks) as they run.  Compact electric devices, such as phones, tablets, and flashlights even generate heat with prolonged use.  During everyday use, these occurrences of heat radiation and small sparks are normal and harmless, but on work sites surrounded with combustible substances, they can easily become an ignition source and a catalyst for an explosion.  When an overheated screen, faulty wiring, or a single spark can devastate a hazardous work environment, compliant product design is imperative for workplace safety.

To be intrinsically safe, an electrical device must be able to operate without outputting too much energy in these types of hazardous areas.  To limit the probability of ignition, intrinsically safe equipment such as a class 1 division 2 handheld runs on simplified, low-current, low-voltage signal and control circuits.

The ATEX-Ex line offers a modern, mobile solution to workers in hazardous locations.  With fast communication operation and a durable design, your company no longer has to walk the line between safety compliance and efficiency.  The CLASS 1, DIV. 2 PDA from Ecom is the world’s first and only handheld that conforms to the highest standards of intrinsically safe electrical device certification.

Currently, Paragon Data Systems is one of the few system integrators with the experience to work with explosion-proof class 1 division 1 products.  Our hardware is guaranteed compliant.  If your company requires intrinsically safe technology, give our experts a call.
